Food Film Fest ‘24 - THANK YOU FOR THE RAIN + panel discussion

  • De Cinema 4 Maarschalk Gérardstraat Antwerpen, Vlaams Gewest, 2000 Belgium (map)

Food.Film.Fest, the film festival of Voedsel Anders that tells stories about the future of our food system, returns to De Cinema! On 27 November, we screen the film THANK YOU FOR THE RAIN, in collaboration with Join For Water.

This special documentary follows Kenyan farmer Kisilu who uses his camera to capture the lives of his family, village and the damage of climate change. Many farmer families, like Kisilu's, are forced to leave their homes in search of a new beginning. When a violent storm brings him and a Norse filmmaker together, we see him transform from a father into a community leader and activist on the world stage. Kisilu tells his story and shows the power of a collaborative community, agroforestry and perseverance.

The screening will be followed by a (pre-recorded) after talk with a local partner of Join For Water from Uganda, who will tell about the consequences they experience of climate change on their water system. Afterwards, a guest speaker will translate the global challenges to the Flemish context. Afterwards, Benjamin Van Bunderen Robberechts, 18 year child right & climate activist and founder of ClimatejusticeforRosa vzw, and Marlies Lanaerts, founder of Klimplant vzw, join the table to discuss the link between climate adaptation and water challenges.
